In 1957 W.T. “Buster” Bellune began selling Evinrude motors out of the filling station he operated in Georgetown. This room off the side of the filling station became known as “The Boat Shed”. As the boat and motor business began to grow, Buster moved to the present location at the foot of St. James Street in 1966 to concentrate on selling and servicing Evinrude motors.
In 1968, Buster’s son Billy came to work at The Boat Shed and ran the business from 1987 until 2003. He built the dry storage building in 1987 and continued selling boats and motors and running the marina during this time.
The Boat Shed is now run by Buster’s grandson, Tom Bellune who began working for the family business when he was a teenager. The Boat Shed Marina has over 130 boats in storage. Due to the demand in boat sales and service, Tom opened The Boat Shed Sales and Service located at 2316 North Fraser Street. There, we sell Cobia, SeaArk, and SeaKing boats and service Evinrude, Yamaha, and Johnson motors. There are also 4 acres of self-serve boat storage located behind the Sales and Service location.
